Lepidoptera Mundi (formerly European Butterflies and Moths)
Welcome to Lepidoptera Mundi - online guide to the World Butterflies and Moths. It has been created as an extension of previous version of the website known as European Butterflies and Moths - see the website history.
Lepidoptera Mundi is an open project - everyone could join to the contributors team and help the authors with creating good illustrated and easy to understand species pages. If would you like to help us - please register yourself and start adding photos and information online.
For the historical reasons - the European and Palearctic species are quite good documented.
To see all the features of the website - please select Europe or Asia first.
All the new regions like Americas, Africa or Australia needs your support and are waiting for your help
The website currently contains more than 42k species and subspecies and is continuously extended and updated. To allow you to browse huge number of taxons a regions system has been created. It allows you to filter species list to the specific area like Africa or North America. You can browse species in four view modes: as a thumbnails, images, list or as a tree. You can use also a lot of different tools like advanced search, compare species, UTM map, lunar calendar or record your sightings from any country of the world. It's also possible to create an own gallery and share your photos with other people focused on the same interests.
Lepidoptera Mundi is multilingual - you can use any of existing languages or create your own language version if it's not available yet.
